BOL (Bill of Lading)

The legal shipping document that travels with every outbound load — proves what's being shipped, who shipped it, who's carrying it, and where it's going.

## What is a BOL?

A **Bill of Lading** is the contract between the shipper (the scrap yard) and the carrier (the trucker or rail line). Three roles:

1. **Receipt** of the goods.
2. **Contract of carriage** between shipper and carrier.
3. **Document of title** — whoever holds the original BOL can take delivery.

## Required fields

- Shipper / consignee names and addresses.
- Carrier name and SCAC code.
- Material description (with NMFC item / class for LTL).
- Gross / tare / net weight.
- Number of pieces or units.
- Pickup and delivery dates.
- Driver and trailer ID.

## How WeighPay handles BOLs

WeighPay generates a fully populated BOL the moment a load is ticketed — no double-entry. Supports straight BOL, master/house BOL, and rail BOL formats.
