Nonferrous

Non-iron scrap metals — copper, aluminum, brass, stainless, lead, zinc — higher value per pound than ferrous and subject to stricter ID/anti-theft rules.

## What is nonferrous scrap?

**Nonferrous** scrap contains no iron and is not magnetic. The major categories:

- **Copper:** #1 bare bright, #2 copper, insulated wire, copper tubing.
- **Aluminum:** Old sheet, cast, extrusion, UBC (used beverage cans), wheels.
- **Brass:** Yellow, red, plumbing brass, radiator brass.
- **Stainless steel:** 304, 316, 430.
- **Lead, zinc, nickel, exotics.**

## Why state regulators care

Because nonferrous prices are high, theft of copper wire, catalytic converters, and AC coils is a major problem. Most US states now require:

- **Government-issued photo ID** captured digitally.
- **Vehicle plate capture.**
- **Thumbprint** (in CA, TX, AZ, others).
- **3- to 10-day hold** before resale.
- **Daily upload** to state-run databases (LeadsOnline, Auto Data Direct).

## How WeighPay handles nonferrous

WeighPay automatically applies the right ID-capture workflow for the operator's state, holds the load for the required period, and uploads the transaction nightly to LeadsOnline or Auto Data Direct.
