NTEP

The National Type Evaluation Program — the certification process every commercial scale in the US must pass to be used for legal-for-trade transactions.

## What is NTEP?

**NTEP** is a program of the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM). NTEP certifies that a specific scale system (load cells + indicator + software) meets the accuracy and legal-for-trade requirements of NIST Handbook 44.

## Why operators care

- A non-NTEP scale **cannot be used to buy or sell by weight** in commerce.
- State Weights & Measures inspectors verify NTEP at annual inspections.

## How WeighPay handles NTEP

WeighPay is paired with NTEP-certified hardware (Rice Lake, Cardinal, Mettler Toledo, etc.) — the ticketing software itself does not affect NTEP certification of the scale.
