R2 Certification

A voluntary certification (Responsible Recycling Standard) that e-waste recyclers earn to prove they meet environmental, health, safety, and data-security standards.

## What is R2?

**R2** (Responsible Recycling) is a SERI-administered certification for electronics recyclers. Auditors verify that the recycler:

- Properly tracks downstream chain of custody.
- Destroys data on every drive (NIST 800-88 or equivalent).
- Meets occupational health & safety standards.
- Properly disposes of hazardous components (CRT glass, mercury, batteries).

## Why customers require R2

- Federal agencies and most Fortune 500 companies will only ship to R2 or e-Stewards–certified processors.
- Insurance and liability coverage depends on it.

## How WeighPay handles R2

WeighPay's e-waste module tracks chain-of-custody by serial number, drive-wipe certificate, and weight — the exact data set R2 auditors ask for.
